A dieline is production geometry, not merely a cutting outline. Incorrect dimensions can make excellent graphics unusable.
Who owns the technical responsibility?
For an existing tool, the packaging supplier normally provides the current dieline. A structural packaging designer develops custom structures with the supplier. The graphic designer applies artwork to the approved geometry.
What does the brand approve?
The brand approves real product dimensions, fit, opening experience and the physical prototype. The supplier confirms material, tooling, machine and tolerance suitability in writing.
What should the file show?
Cut, crease, perforation, glue, window, non-print zones, panel names, scale and dimensions should be distinct. Technical lines must not accidentally print as artwork.
Why avoid online templates?
Similar-looking boxes can differ in caliper, locks and machine tolerances. An online template is safe only after the selected supplier redraws or approves it.
