You've decided to launch your own brand. The most common mistake new founders make is treating packaging as an afterthought — "we'll get a logo and put it on the box." Follow the right sequence and you'll save both money and time.

You've decided to launch your own brand. The most common mistake new founders make is treating packaging as an afterthought — "we'll get a logo and put it on the box." Follow the right sequence and you'll save both money and time.

Step 1 — Positioning first. Who are you selling to? Retail shelf or e-commerce? Premium or value segment? Packaging designed "for everyone" speaks to no one.

Step 2 — Brand identity, not just a logo. Color palette, typography, and visual language must work consistently across packaging, social media, and your website.

Step 3 — Legal groundwork. Trademark registration, barcodes (GS1), and mandatory label information. If these aren't known at the design stage, you'll pay for the label twice.

Step 4 — Choose the packaging structure. Box, doypack, or bottle label? Structure determines protection, shelf life, shipping durability, and unit cost. E-commerce brands should prioritize shipping-safe structures and unboxing experience.

Step 5 — Design and shelf testing. Professional design starts with competitor analysis and is validated with shelf simulations. Never approve a design you haven't seen next to its competitors.

Step 6 — Print preparation. CMYK conversion, die-line compliance, bleed. Mistakes here are the most expensive ones, because print runs typically start at 5,000+ units.

Step 7 — E-commerce visuals. With 3D product visualization, you can have professional catalog images before a single unit is printed — accelerating your launch by weeks.
