Short Answer

Social algorithms now favor video over every other format — Reels, TikTok, Shorts, product videos. Every marketing meeting includes "we should do video." But most brands make the same mistake: shooting before strategy.

Social algorithms now favor video over every other format — Reels, TikTok, Shorts, product videos. Every marketing meeting includes "we should do video." But most brands make the same mistake: shooting before strategy.

1. Purpose and audience. Awareness, sales, or trust? The goal determines the format: punchy Reels for awareness, product films for sales, behind-the-scenes stories for trust. A video without a goal is one that looks nice and moves no metric.

2. Strategy and calendar. One video is not a campaign. Sustainable results require content pillars and a monthly calendar. The cost secret of video production: extracting 8-10 pieces of content from a single shoot day.

3. Script and hook. The scroll decision happens in the first three seconds. Write the script backwards: CTA first, then the message that leads there, then the opening hook. Unscripted footage can't be saved in the edit.

4. Phone or professional production? Both — in the right places. Well-lit phone footage works for daily social content and can even feel more authentic. For permanent assets — launches, ad campaigns, website hero videos — professional production (lighting, sound, multi-angle) shows immediately.

5. Edit and adapt. The edit builds the story: pacing, music, subtitles, brand graphics — then horizontal, vertical, and square versions from one master.

6. Measure the right metrics. Not views: retention, saves, shares, clicks. A drop in the first three seconds means a weak hook; viewers who finish but don't click mean a weak CTA.
